Periodontal

The gums and jaw bone are integral to your teeth, providing support and keeping them firmly in place. Periodontal treatment is concerned with preserving the gums and jaw bone when they have been compromised by disease.

Inflammation of your gums (known as gingivitis) is very common and easily treatable. However, if left untreated, it can result in a more severe form of gum disease known as periodontitis. This can be very difficult to treat and can result in recession of the gums, loose teeth and ultimately tooth loss.

As gum disease is the leading cause of adult tooth loss, it is important to maintain healthy gums and prevent the progression of gum disease.

We encourage you to visit our hygienists  at least every six months so they can assess the health of your gums.  They can remove any scale  or stains that have formed and show you ways of preventing plaque and scale from accumulating on your teeth which is an important step in preventing gum problems developing.
