Types of dentures
You may require a partial denture for multiple missing teeth or a full denture if you have lost all of your upper or lower teeth. Fabricated from dental acrylic substances, or a combination of metal and acrylic, that are safe to place in your mouth, dentures are designed to feel comfortable and look natural.
- Partial dentures: Partial dentures are a popular solution for patients who still have a number of their natural teeth in place but wish to have any gaps filled to improve their appearance or eating ability
- Full dentures: Full dentures are used when all of the existing natural teeth have been lost or have been extracted
While your dentist will always try to preserve as many of your natural teeth as possible, in some instances, extractions are necessary to preserve and promote your oral health.
Your treatment
Each denture appliance is made specifically for you and to meet your dental needs. The denture building and fitting process depends upon the number of teeth that require replacement, the health of your gums and surrounding teeth and whether dental implants are necessary to hold the appliance in place.
Prior to your fitting appointment, your denture treatment will be explained in detail. You will also be advised on how to clean and care for your dentures properly.
As a dental team, we pride ourselves on creating attractive, comfortable and fully-functional dentures for our patients. We want you to feel confident and able to eat and speak as you once did with the use of your new denture.
